Keyword-to-Page Mapping Template with Auditite

Map target keywords to specific URLs to eliminate keyword cannibalization. Includes intent classification and priority scoring formulas.

Overview

Keyword mapping assigns each target keyword to one specific page on your site. Without a clear map, multiple pages compete for the same keyword (cannibalization), diluting rankings and confusing search engines. This worksheet provides a systematic approach to mapping keywords to pages.

Intent Classification Guide

Intent TypeSignal WordsContent TypeExample

Priority Scoring Formula

Calculate priority for each keyword to determine resource allocation.

Priority Score = (Volume / 1000) × (1 - Difficulty/100) × Intent Multiplier × Opportunity Score
FactorValues
VolumeMonthly search volume
DifficultyKeyword difficulty (0-100)
Intent MultiplierTransactional = 3, Commercial = 2, Informational = 1, Navigational = 0.5
Opportunity ScoreNot ranking = 1.0, Rank 11-20 = 1.5 (striking distance), Rank 4-10 = 1.2, Rank 1-3 = 0.5

Example: Volume 2000, Difficulty 45, Commercial intent, Rank 14 = (2000/1000) × (1 - 45/100) × 2 × 1.5 = 2 × 0.55 × 2 × 1.5 = 3.3

Cannibalization Resolution Worksheet

Keep A, redirect B

Resolution Actions:

  • Keep & Redirect: Keep the stronger page, 301 redirect the weaker one
  • Merge: Combine the best content from both pages into one
  • Differentiate: Rewrite one page to target a different keyword
  • Canonical: Add canonical tag if both pages must exist

Keyword Grouping

Group related keywords that a single page can target.

Primary KeywordSecondary KeywordsLong-tail VariationsAssigned URL
SEO audit toolSEO auditing software, website SEO checkerautomated SEO audit tool for agencies, best SEO audit tool 2026/features/audit

Grouping Rule: Keywords with the same SERP (70%+ overlap in top 10 results) should be assigned to one page. Keywords with different SERPs need separate pages.

Implementation Checklist

  1. Export all target keywords from your research
  2. Pull current ranking data from Search Console or rank tracker
  3. Classify search intent for each keyword
  4. Identify existing pages that match each keyword
  5. Flag cannibalization issues where multiple pages rank
  6. Assign one URL per keyword using the priority formula
  7. Resolve cannibalization through redirects, merges, or differentiation
  8. Update internal links to match the new mapping
  9. Update on-page optimization (titles, headings, content) for assigned keywords
  10. Review the map quarterly as rankings and content evolve

Auditite’s rank tracking and site audit features help identify cannibalization issues automatically and monitor keyword-to-page assignments over time.
