Outcome

All heading hierarchy issues are identified with AI-generated corrections that maintain content meaning while fixing structural problems

How it works

2

AI-powered heading correction

The AI engine analyzes the content context of each heading and generates corrected heading levels that maintain logical document structure without changing the content itself.

3

Validation and monitoring

After corrections are applied, Auditite re-crawls affected pages to verify the heading structure is now valid and monitors for future regressions.

Scheduled Crawls

Heading hierarchy is a fundamental aspect of on-page SEO that many sites get wrong. Search engines use heading structure to understand content organization and topic hierarchy. Screen readers rely on headings for navigation. When headings skip levels, appear out of order, or when a page has multiple H1 tags, both search engines and users lose important structural signals.

When to Use This Automation

Enable this automation if your site uses a CMS where multiple content editors create pages, if you have migrated content from another platform that may have inconsistent heading structures, or if your site’s templates have evolved over time without consistent heading standards. Sites with hundreds or thousands of content pages especially benefit, as manual heading audits at that scale are impractical.

How It Works

During each crawl, Auditite parses the DOM of every page and extracts the complete heading hierarchy. The automation identifies several categories of issues: pages with no H1 tag, pages with multiple H1 tags, heading levels that skip (for example, jumping from H2 to H4 without an H3), and headings used purely for visual styling rather than structural purposes.

For each violation, the AI engine examines the surrounding content to understand the intended hierarchy. It then generates corrected heading levels that preserve the logical structure of the content. For example, if a page jumps from H2 to H4, the AI determines whether the H4 should be promoted to H3 or whether an intermediate heading is needed.

The corrections are presented as a diff showing the current and proposed heading for each change. You can review and approve changes individually or in bulk. For sites connected through CMS integrations, approved changes can be applied directly.

What Results to Expect

Correcting heading hierarchy improves how search engines parse and understand your content structure, which can lead to better featured snippet eligibility and more accurate keyword targeting. Accessibility scores improve immediately as screen reader users can navigate your content more effectively. Over time, consistent heading structures across your site create a clean, professional document outline that benefits both humans and search engines.
