The Challenge
ShopNova is an online fashion retailer with a catalog of over 18,000 products across clothing, accessories, and footwear. Their product pages were the lifeblood of their business, but organic search performance had been declining steadily for two quarters.
The root cause was a combination of problems common to large e-commerce sites. Thousands of product pages had thin or duplicate descriptions generated by their PIM system. Faceted navigation had created an explosion of crawlable URL parameters, diluting crawl budget across low-value filter combinations. Product images — often the primary selling point — lacked alt text and were served in unoptimized formats, slowing page loads and missing image search opportunities.
Their category pages suffered from cannibalization issues, with multiple category and subcategory pages competing for the same keywords. The site’s internal linking structure was flat, with most product pages only reachable through search or category listings, leaving them with weak PageRank signals.
Previous attempts to fix these issues involved exporting data from their e-commerce platform, manipulating it in spreadsheets, and re-importing changes — a process that took weeks and was error-prone. The SEO team of two people simply could not keep up with a catalog that added 200 new products per week.
The Solution
ShopNova connected Auditite to their Shopify Plus store and initiated a full-site crawl. The platform’s e-commerce-aware crawling recognized product page patterns, category structures, and faceted navigation automatically, categorizing issues by page type rather than treating everything uniformly.
The first priority was addressing the crawl budget problem. Auditite identified 42,000 crawlable URL variations from faceted navigation that were consuming Googlebot’s attention without providing search value. The team used Auditite’s recommendations to implement proper canonicalization and configure robots.txt rules that focused crawl budget on high-value pages.
Next, they tackled product page quality at scale. Auditite’s content analysis flagged 6,300 product pages with thin descriptions under 50 words and 4,200 pages with duplicate content. The AI auto-fix feature generated unique meta titles and descriptions for all flagged pages based on product attributes, while the team rewrote descriptions for their top 500 revenue-generating products manually.
For images, Auditite’s bulk analysis identified 31,000 product images missing alt text and 14,000 images served in non-WebP formats. The automated fix capabilities generated descriptive alt text from product names and attributes, and the team worked with their CDN provider to implement WebP conversion based on Auditite’s recommendations.
Finally, Auditite’s schema validation ensured that every product page had correct Product schema markup with price, availability, and review data — critical for rich snippet eligibility in Google Shopping results.
The Results
Within four months of implementing Auditite’s recommendations, ShopNova achieved significant improvements:
- Product page organic traffic increased 89%, with the largest gains on pages that had previously suffered from thin content and missing schema markup.
- 2,100 additional product pages were indexed by Google, pages that had previously been ignored due to crawl budget waste on faceted navigation URLs.
- Organic search revenue grew 67%, driven by higher traffic volumes and improved click-through rates from rich snippets displaying price and availability information.
- Image search traffic tripled, accounting for 12% of total organic traffic after alt text optimization and image format improvements.
- Average product page load time dropped from 4.1 seconds to 2.3 seconds, primarily from image optimization and the elimination of render-blocking third-party scripts that Auditite identified.
The team estimated that Auditite saved them approximately 120 hours of manual work in the first quarter alone, mostly from automated meta tag generation and bulk image alt text creation.
What’s Next
ShopNova is preparing for international expansion into European markets and plans to use Auditite to manage hreflang implementation across their English, German, and French storefronts. They are also exploring the continuous monitoring features to catch product page issues in real time as new inventory is added — preventing SEO problems rather than fixing them retroactively.
Marcus Rivera summarized the impact: “Auditite turned our SEO from a bottleneck into a competitive advantage. We used to lose rankings every time we added new products. Now every new page goes live with proper SEO from day one.”
"We had 18,000 product pages and no idea how many had SEO issues. Auditite gave us visibility we never had before and the tools to fix problems at scale."
